Who is the Library Director?

Amy Ihnen has been the Library Director since July 2009.   Ihnen has been working in libraries since 2007 and prior to becoming the Library Director at Chatham Area Public Library, she was the Reference Librarian.  She graduated from the Indiana University at  Bloomington in 2008 with her Master’s of Science Degree in Library Science.  Ihnen is an animal lover and adores her adopted black lab mix, Percy.  Every September, you can catch Ihnen and Percy at the library’s annual Canine Carnival.

Should I notify the library when my phone number, email, or address has changed?

Yes.  It is very important to inform the library when any contact information has changed to make sure that the library has the most current information on how best to reach you.  You must make the changes in person.  The library does not make changes to a patron's account by phone, texting, or email.

Does the library have fax services available?

Yes.  The Library offers free cover sheets for faxes.  Your costs are:

·        Toll-free numbers:  No charge

·        In-state numbers:   $1.00 per page

·        Out-of-state numbers:  $2.00 per page

·        Out-of-country numbers:  $3.00 per page

·        Received faxes:  $1.00 per page

Does the library have a typewriter available for public use?

Yes.  Study Room #4 has a typewriter.  Paper and supplies are not provided.  You must sign up for the study room at the circulation desk in order to use the typewriter.

Does the library have study rooms available for public use?

Yes.  The library has four study rooms.  To use a study room, you must sign up at the circulation desk.  Study rooms may be reserved for two hours at a time.  Study room time may be renewed for an additional hour if no one has requested the room.  NO food is allowed in any study room.  Only drinks with lids are allowed in the study rooms.  Study rooms may be requested only week in advance.

Does the library accept donations such as books, DVDs, etc.?

Yes.  The library does accept donations in good condition such as books, DVDs, puzzles, etc.  The library does NOT accept textbooks, encyclopedias, or magazines older than six months.  Drop off your donations inside the library at the circulation desk during library hours.

Does the library have a community bulletin board?

Yes.  The library allows only non-profit information to be posted on the bulletin board and does not allow any solicitation.  At the circulation desk you may drop off a copy of the poster or information that your organization would like to post.  The Library Director makes final decisions about which items are displayed.

Who are The Friends Of The Library?

The Friends of the Library is a fundraising organization that operates apart from the Chatham Area Public Library District.  It has its own Board, goals, and purposes and is comprised of volunteers.  To become a Friends member, contact the Library Director at Director [at] chathamlib.org or 217-483-2713.

Is the library a non-profit organization?

The library is a taxing body which is supported by a variety of funding sources, such as property and personal property replacement taxes, state and federal grants, fines, charges, donations, and Friends Of The Library fundraising efforts.

Does the library have a used-book Bookstore?

Yes.  The Bahlow Bookstore is open during library hours and is staffed by volunteers with the assistance of the Bookstore Manager and the Friends of the Library.
