2021 Summer Reading Program

What is the Summer Reading Program?

White background with colorful text and sunburst-like lines coming off of the words in the upper left corner. Our Summer Reading program, offered each summer, is designed to encourage people of all ages to keep reading during summer months.

Registration opens in May, and the program runs through July. Participants read books, audiobooks, comics, or graphic novels of their choosing and log their reading using the Beanstack website, http://chathamlib.beanstack.org, or the Beanstack Tracker app (apple | android). Younger children win prizes, and participants from 7th grade and up enter into weekly prize drawings.

We typically start the Summer Reading Program season with a Kick-Off Event for families to acknowledge the beginning of a summer full of reading and fun.

Page Turner Adventures

Since we cannot get together for our usual Summer Reading Kick-off, we are bringing a Tails and Tales Virtual Summer Reading Kick-off video series to you! Each week in June, we will share videos from Page Turner Adventures on our website for your little one to enjoy.

Through the videos, children will transform into Storyologists, virtually traveling through the Once Upon a Time Machine to explore different adventures with Page Turner and Kenny. There are five videos each week which include comedy shows, virtual field trips, craft projects and recipes, and the videos will be available to view through early September.

Rubber Ducky Club

The Rubber Ducky Club is for little ones birth through age 3.

For this program, you:

Read together and log 30 books. Once completed, stop by the Library and receive a rubber ducky.

Can log your books between June 1 - July 31, 2021.

Summer Reading for 4 - 12 Year Olds

4-8 year olds log minutes of reading and receive prizes after each 100 minutes read.
8-12 year olds log minutes of reading and receive prizes after each 150 minutes read.
For children who are either 8 or 12 years of age, families choose the one challenge that best suits them.

What are the prizes?

Prize One - Dragonfly flyer toy and Craft
Prize Two - Chihuahua paratrooper toy and Craft
Prize Three - Pawprint notepad and pencil set and Craft
Prize Four - Bird glider and Craft
Prize Five - Bendable toy figure and Craft
Prize Six - Pick a Prize
Prize Seven - Name in the Clarion
Prize Eight - Yard Sign* (in order to be good stewards of the Earth we are offering new signs from previous summers with a 2021 sticker)

Tween and Teen Summer Reading

Readers, ages 12-18, will log books they read. For each book read, they will receive virtual tickets to enter a raffle for the chance to win gift cards. For each book logged, readers will also be automatically entered into the grand prize drawing.
Those signed up for the Tween/Teen Summer Reading Program will also be eligible for weekly crafts that can be picked up at the Library during the first six weeks of the program.

Adult Summer Reading Program

For this program:

Readers, ages 18 and up, will log books and audiobooks they read. For each book read, they will receive virtual tickets to enter a raffle for the chance to win gift cards. For each book logged, readers will also be automatically entered into the grand prize drawing.
Winners will be drawn and notified weekly until July 26th.
Sign up begins May 1st. You can create an account and sign-up on Beanstack, our online Reading Tracker website at https://chathamlib.beanstack.org or on the mobile app (apple | android).
You can log your books in Beanstack between June 14 - July 26, 2021.

The prizes for this program are:

Week 1: 2 winners will win a gift card to Bewitching Botanicals.

Week 2: 2 winners will win a gift card to Simply Fair.

Week 3: 2 winners will win a gift card to Cocoa Blue Chocolates.

Week 4: 2 winners will win a gift card to Great House BBQ.

Week 5: 2 winners will win a gift card to Daisy Jane's.

Grand Prize: 2 winners will be chosen, and they could either win a gift card to Finley's Tap House and a gift card to Incredibly Delicious OR a gift card to Trade Winds Pub & Eatery and a gift card to the Route 66 Drive In Theater.
