The Chatham Area Public Library District provides materials, services, programs, and access to technology to help library users meet their lifelong learning, literacy, and recreational needs. The Library emphasizes stimulating and fostering children’s interest and appreciation for reading and learning. The Library serves as a community meeting place for people of all ages.
We envision our library as being community centered, responding to the needs of a growing and diverse population.
At the Chatham Area Public Library, our collection contains 77,486 (FY18) of books, magazines, large print books, audio books, DVDs, Blu-rays, music CDs, newspapers, puzzles, e-books, and downloadable audiobooks with an annual circulation of 268,666 (FY18) items. We also offer a multitude of library programs for residents young and the young-at-heart.
Our staff will help you find the information you seek, either in person or by phone. Use our online catalog and online resources either in-person or from your home or office computer. With your Chatham Area Library card, you have instant access to full-text periodical databases, research materials, literary criticism and more. Access to Ancestry Library is available in the Library.
The library has one conference room, 3 large meeting rooms, 1 activity room and 4 group study rooms that can be reserved. There are many large tables and study booths on the floor of the library for your use as well.
BORROWING AND RENEWING MATERIALS
Chatham Area Public Library cards are available free of charge to anyone who resides or owns property in the Library District. In addition, Lincoln Library and other non-IHLS patrons can have borrowing privileges of items only found on the shelves (placing items on hold not available). We can request materials from other libraries in SHARE.
Materials are generally lent for two weeks and may be renewed if not requested by another patron with the exception of the reference materials and current month magazines that are non-circulating . Puzzles have a check out of 2 months. Materials from other SHARE libraries may have a different check out period due to their lending policies. Materials may be returned to any library in the SHARE system.
Late return fees of 10¢ per day are charged for adult materials, up to a maximum of $3.00 per item and 5¢ for juvenile item, young adult item, or magazine, up to a maximum of $1.00 per item. A patron is considered delinquent when the fine total reaches $5.00 and may no longer check out materials until the fine is reduced.
TECHNOLOGY ACCESS AT THE LIBRARY
The library has 17 public PCs with internet access. In addition, the library provides free wireless access, a Black & White photocopier, 3 flatbed scanners, overhead scanner, slide/negative scanner, VHS to DVD converter and microfilm reader that can be used by any member of the public. Our online resources including the catalog are available on all Library PCs. SHARE Library Catalog is easy to use and, once you find a title, it can be reserved online.
