Early Voting for the November 3, 2026 General Election, begins on Thursday, September 24, 2026 and ends on Monday November, 2nd.
Vote by Mail
Interested persons must apply for a vote by mail ballot prior to the election by completing a vote by mail application. See When/How to Request a vote by mail ballot for more information.
Vote by Mail for the November 3, 2026 General Election, begins on Wednesday, August 5th and ends on Thursday, October 29th. Please note that Thursday, September 24th is the first day to mail ballots.
How do I Register to Vote?
Residents of Sangamon County are able to register to vote by:
- Filling out a voter application form in person at the Sangamon County Election Office.
- Registering online through the Illinois State Board of Elections
- Printing out the Sangamon County Voter Registration Application and mailing the completed application to the Sangamon County Clerk's office.

Where Can I Vote?
Visit the Illinois State Board of Elections website to find out:
- where you are registered to vote
- where your polling place is located
- all of your voting districts
Residents of Sangamon County may also use the County Clerk's website to find where they can vote and view a sample ballot.
To Qualify To Vote You MUST:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Be at least 18 years old (some 17 year-olds may vote in the General Primary, Consolidated Primary or Caucus)
- Live in your election precinct at least 30 days
- Not be convicted and incarcerated
- Not claim the right to vote anywhere else
