The Chatham Area Public Library has been awarded the All of Us Consumer Health Collection Grant through the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM). The grant, totaling $1,000, will be used to purchase 42 books that cover a variety of health topics such as autism, multiple types of cancers, healthy pregnancies, LGBTQ health, how to communicate with your doctor, and many more. The Consumer Health Collection will be housed at the Library, located at 600 E Spruce St in Chatham, IL, and each title will be available for patrons to check out.
Part of NNLM’s mission is to improve the public’s access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health. “There is a lot of medical information available out there, but not all of that information is created equal. In order to make the best decisions for their health, it’s critical for people to understand where and how to find reliable information about health topics”, said Chatham Area Public Library’s Director, Amy Byers, “and we are delighted, through this grant, to be able to provide updated and accurate information for our community about a variety of health topics.” Be sure to keep an eye out for a library display highlighting these new titles, check out our Facebook page (@CAPLD) for book highlights, and visit our website at www.chathamlib.org for more information.
