Considering recently released Illinois Department of Health guidelines and the current county spread of COVID-19, the Chatham Area Public Library will be returning to Contactless Curbside Service until further notice. We hope that we can help answer questions you may have here about this service change, and, as always, please feel free to call us at 217-483-2713 or email us at [email protected] with any questions.
How will the Contactless Curbside Service work?
Contactless Curbside Pickup works in 3 Easy Steps:
- Order - Request your items through our online catalog, through our Request Form, or by calling the Library at 217-483-2713.
- Call - Once you receive a notification (via email, text, or phone call) that your items are ready for pick up, just pull up near the Library’s main entrance, during our business hours, and give us a call at 217-483-2713 to let us know you’re here. You can also call in advance to let us know when you're coming or that you're on your way.
- Pickup - Please stay in your car, pop your trunk or roll down your passenger or back window, and a staff member will place the items in your car.
What are the Contactless Curbside Hours:
- Monday - Thursday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Where should I go when I arrive at the Library to pick up my items?
Please just pull up to the Library near the Main Entrance. Once you're there, give us a call at 217-483-2713, and a staff member will bring your items out.
Can we still request items from different libraries?
Yes. At this time, requesting items between participating libraries is still taking place. This is subject to change.
Can I return items?
Our Outdoor Book Drop will remain open 24/7 to accept returns. You are welcome to return DVDs using the Outdoor Book Drop. For specialty item return, please call the Library at 217-483-2713 and a staff member will provide assistance. Please note that items will continue to be quarantined for several days after being checked in, and any fines accrued during that time will be waived.
What are you doing with items once they're returned?
We have developed a process for safely accepting library items back through our Outdoor Book Drop involving a several day quarantine period. Please note that, because of this process, your item(s) will remain on your account several after they've been returned. No fines will accrue on your items during this quarantine period, and Library staff will contact patrons with any questions at the time of check in.
Can I use a computer?
At this time, patrons can call to reserve a time to use a computer. Computers can be used for up to 15 minutes.
Are you accepting donations at this time?
No. Due to health and safety concerns related to the processing of donations, we are not accepting donations at this time.
I'm having a difficult time finding books for myself and my kids. Can you help?
With over 79,000 physical items and over 100,000 digital offerings in our collection, it can be challenging to even know where to begin. We are happy to help you narrow down which items may interest you. You’re welcome to call us to discuss your material interests or fill out our online form, and we will get back to you with suggestions.
Can I still print documents?
We are now offering curbside pickup of printed documents! Simply email what you need printed to [email protected]. We will print them off, and you'll receive an email confirmation when they're ready for pickup. Finally, just give us a call when you arrive to pick them up, and we will bring them out to you.
Can I use the fax machine?
Yes. Just come to the Library, stay in your car, and call the Library at 217-483-2713. A staff member will come out to retreive your items, send the fax, and bring your items back out to you once the fax is sent.
Will notary services be available?
Notary services will be available by appointment. Appointments can be arranged by calling 217-483-2713.
What do I do if I need to renew my library card?
Give us a call at 217-483-2713 or email us at [email protected], and we will help you get your library card up to date.
What can I do if I want to get a library card?
We are offering a E-Card for those living within the Chatham Area Public Library District boundaries. You can visit https://www.chathamlib.org/e-card-registration to complete the E-Card Registration Form. Questions? Contact [email protected].
